Adventures in Learning is not just another summer program. AIL combines stimulating academic and social opportunities in a fun-filled 10-day experience that exposes participants to exciting and sophisticated areas of interest not usually found during the regular school year. AIL is designed for gifted, talented, and high-ability learners who are entering grades 6 and 7 in Fall of 2017 and are interested in fast-paced, challenging opportunities.
AIL meets Mondays through Fridays, July 10-21, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Oregon State University campus. Participants interact with enthusiastic faculty members from OSU and other institutions, outstanding public school educators, and professionals eager to share their expertise. Classes are held in OSU laboratories and classrooms.
Adventures in Learning -- sponsored by OSU Precollege Programs along with corporate and private donations -- was developed and is guided by an advisory board of OSU personnel, public school administrators, and area TAG specialists. The program is nonresidential, although meal options are available.
AIL offers courses specifically designed to meet the particular learning needs of youth who are capable of high academic performance. Program participants attend classes for three hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. Students select 4 eighty minute long courses in which they are interested. More than 20 courses, covering a wide range of topics, are proposed each year.
Instructors submit course proposals during February and March; the complete 2016 course list will be posted on the AIL Web page by APRIL 15.
AIL's wide variety of offerings enables students to expand current interests and investigate new ones. Program partipants can anticipate: academic stimulation in the company of other capable students, developing new friendships, an exciting learning environment, and access to OSU facilities.
